How to treat Cradle Cap

According to Loyola University, the average one-month-old baby is bathed four times each week and shampooed three times. Commercial Baby Skin Care Products are loaded with chemicals, fragrances and detergents that dry out sensitive baby skin and often cause skin rashes in babies and young children. As a result more baby skin care products are applied with a further de-hydrating affect on your precious baby's skin. For a natural approach to Baby Skin Care newborn babies need only an occasional bath in warm water and no soap or shampoo is needed. If you are treating cradle cap, nappy rash or skin rashes in babies, then use only natural baby skin care products.

We recommend looking after sensitive baby skin with Natural Baby Skin Care Products that are organic relief for your baby's skin and scalp and won't dry out sensitive baby skin. Baby skin care products should have a pH 5.5 and be free of Sodium Lauryl sulphate, soap agents and fragrances.

Over 75 percent of newborn babies get nappy rash within the first months after birth. Nappy Rash most commonly occurs due to bacteria and detergent residues that are not completely rinsed off when nappies are changed and/or washed. It is important to keep your baby's sensitive skin clean and well hydrated and if nappy rash does occur, we feel natural skin care products and natural treatment of nappy rash and skin rashes in babies is imperative, giving your baby the best organic start in life.

The standard medical treatment for baby skin rashes and nappy rash is cortisone cream. Fortunately, some paediatricians prefer not use such strong steroids for baby skin care purely for cosmetic reasons. Try Pure Organic Aloe Vera to nourish, moisturise and protect your baby's sensitive skin. Organic Aloe Vera will gently re-hydrate the most sensitive baby skin, without fragrance, colour, SLS or gelling agent added. Apply with every diaper/nappy change and don't rub in; allow a few minutes to dry. The lotion will absorb naturally and allow for much loved nappy free time. We recommend washing the nappy area with clean water each diaper/nappy change then patting dry before applying Aloe Vera lotion. Without a powder base this baby skin care treatment insures no concerns of inhalation. Apply a barrier cream to protect your baby's sensitive skin. A natural baby skin care barrier cream protects against further de- hydration and assists in keeping nappy rash and skin rashes in babies at bay. Apply with every diaper/nappy change.

Aloe Vera has a pH factor very close to that of the skin and it helps to restore the skin to its natural pH. Six antiseptics naturally contained in Aloe Vera soothe nappy rash, baby skin rashes, inflammation and irritated skin and reduce the chance of further infection. Aloe Vera is a mild anaesthetic, antibacterial & antifungal, containing anti-inflammatory fatty acids. These components have shown to assist in relieving itching, swelling, redness and pain. Aloe Vera is a natural moisturiser, fragrance and oil free, perfect for baby skin care products and treating cradle cap, nappy rash and other skin rashes in babies.

Cradle Cap is a thick, yellowish, crusty rash that forms on the scalp and sometimes the eyebrows of babies. Cradle Cap can be found on newborn babies skin, on toddler scalps and if persistent cradle cap can still be found on pre-schoolers. Cradle Cap is not dangerous, only unsightly. Cradle Cap in babies and young children is caused partly by an over production of oil. We suggest, if harsh detergents are used in baby skin care products and used daily, the bodies natural oil production is stimulated to counter act the drying effects of these so called 'gentle' baby skin care products. Instead, apply Aloe Vera baby skin care products directly onto the skin, just a fine mist at a time but apply regularly to soften cradle cap crusts, then after bathing rub gently with a towel or a soft hair brush to remove cradle cap crusts. Several attempts may be needed.

Organic Aloe Vera Natural Skin Care Products are ideal for baby skin care. Aloe Vera is natural baby skin care treatment that will gently re-hydrate the most sensitive baby skin. Aloe Vera will cleanse, repair, moisturise and protect the most sensitive baby skin without fear of petroleum by products, SLS, fragrance, colour, gelling agents or fillers added.

If you need to acquire a new bed and mattress, then by all means bring him with you. This way, he gets excited about the fact that he has a hand at choosing his own things. Let him help in setting up his new room. Have him select his choice of blankets. If need be, do this activity with your child a month earlier than your planned transition from a crib to a bed. This way, you provide him with some time to get used to the idea that he will soon have his own room and own bed to sleep in.

Provide the same routine even when the transition from a crib to a bed has already been made. The best way to ease your child through the transition from a crib to a bed would be by keeping the same bedtime routines he had. Is he used to being read a story before bedtime? Then keep this practice even after the transition.

Changes such as these take a toll on our children's minds. This is why we should provide them with plenty of support and love. This way, they know that no matter how big the changes in their lives will be, that you will always be there to guide, nurture, and love them.

How To Prevent Food Allergies In Kids

Children are more prone to food allergies than adults. A child with one parent suffering some kind of food allergy is twice as likely to develop a food allergy compared to one whose parents do not have this problem.

Sneezing may be an early symptom of a food allergy. When your child's immune system reacts abnormally against specific proteins in foods we eat, a food allergy can develop.

Most food allergies tend to diminish as the child grows older, although some allergies may trail them into adulthood.

Causes of food allergies
The foods that trigger allergies are varied. In fact, any food is capable of triggering an allergic reaction, though some are more potent than others.

Cow's milk can cause allergy in some young children. About one third of these affected kids outgrow the allergy when they turn three. Other foods that often affect children include: Egg, Peanuts, Wheat and Shellfish

Symptoms of food allergies
There are two kinds of allergic reactions:

Delayed A
delayed reaction can take up to two days to manifest itself.

Immediate
These reactions are more dangerous and can occur within seconds of eating or inhaling vapors of offending foods.

Typical symptoms include:
Mild Rash, Swelling, Sneezing, Hives, Coughing, Dermatitis, Migraine, Wheezing, Asthma, Diarrhoea, Vomiting, Loss of consciousness

Take early steps to prevent allergies
Although food allergies may run in the family, different members may be allergic to different foods, making meal preparation a real challenge.

The best strategy against food allergies is to avoid foods that may spell trouble. Here are a few tips on managing risk:
- Work closely with a doctor or nutritionist to manage the problem, and avoid eliminating essential foods from your child's diet. It's important to replace the vital nutrients in omitted foods with safe substitutes.
- Your family doctor will need to know both parents' medical histories (including any food allergies), as well as the frequency of the child's allergy problem and any offending foods known to you.
- Your doctor may recommend a restrictive diet and an elimination strategy where suspected foods are removed from their diet and later re-introduced, one at a time, to identify the culprits.
- You should keep a journal of what your child eats, and when and what symptoms occur afterward.
 - Screen food labels for hidden disagreeable ingredients.
- Ensure an intake of essential vitamins and minerals that step up the body's resistance to allergies. These include vitamins A, C and E, as well as iron and zinc.

A note of caution If you are concerned about allergies, introduce new foods one at a time so that you can monitor your child's reaction. This even applies to fruits and vegetables, which can be guilty of triggering allergies in sensitive individuals.

And look out for "relatives" of offending fruits too - known as cross-reactivity. Examples include: - Plums, peaches and apricots - Papaya and pineapple - Mango and cashew - Guava and banana

How to potty trained kids

Thomas 3-in-1 PottyMany parents experience the challenge of potty training their little ones. It can get frustrating most of the time and the child can become bored with the routine that most parents are using. But this should not be because there are some strategies that can effectively potty train your child.

For first-time parents, particularly the mothers, the right age for a child to potty train may vary. Many experienced moms would advise you to potty train your child at least 1 year old or before 2 years old. Again it varies and it usually depends on how your child will respond to the training and how you administer it.

First thing to do is to observe your child is he/she is ready for potty training. An inquisitive child less than 2 years old can show signs of interest on what the adults do, so take this opportunity to explain to your child where the poop and pee go. Once you have established his/her interest on this subject, you can apply the "sit and change" technique which is basically sitting his/her down every diaper change.

Next thing to do is to use rewards for every job well done. This is in conjunction to training him/her to go to the potty when it is necessary. Giving your child an upbeat praise will train his/her mindset that potty training is a good thing and he/she will get praises and rewards for doing so.

As much as possible don't give your child options by asking him/her "do you want to potty?" Instead, tell your child straight to the point that "it's time to potty" or "it's time to sit". Do this at the onset of your potty training with your child so that he/she won't be confused.

Be reminded that full potty training doesn't have to last long than 3 weeks. Make sure that you tell your child that whenever he/she needs to poop, pee or change diaper he/she should call your attention. Tell your child that he/se can use his/her favorite nursery rhyme, dance or anything upbeat to indicate that it's time to potty. This can put fun into the potty training and your child will enjoy the experience rather than get bored, frustrated and stressed out.

Once your child has established an interest and has done initial potty training, you can put him/her on underwear. You can make him/her sit every hour. Although some folks make their children sit after every 30 minutes, at this rate your child will grow tired and may find the training sessions not fun anymore.

You can also bring along your child's potty whenever you're out or travelling. The potty training can be done while you and your child are travelling so when he/she needs to go, you can pull over and let your child go right inside your vehicle using the portable potty.

Don't worry about accidents because they happen especially during the first few days. Just keep practicing the routine and always give praises for trying and rewards for doing the job correctly. Be patient and encouraging because these can truly help your child learn how to potty properly and timely.

How to tell if your baby has Strabismus or Cross Eyes

Strabismus is the medical term to define the condition when the human eyes are not looking straight in front. It may appear that the eyes give a cross eyed look about them. The condition has been known to be very common in babies under 6 months old however it can affect babies and young children. There are two types of "squint" dependent upon the direction of the eye when looking at it. A Convergent Squint means that the eyes are directed inward whilst a Divergent Squint refers to when the eyes are looking to the sides or away from centre.

In babies under 6 months old (roughly), it is common that their eyes will often appear to wander from various objects that they have in their focal vision. This is perfectly normal as the babies eyes are still developing and their eye muscles are strengthening. Quite often these wandering eyes will be intermittent but when it occurs all the time it could be a constant Strabismus. Once the baby is older than 6 months, the wandering eye should have ceased and they should be able to focus a lot better on objects. In either example (constant Strabismus or older than 6 months), if your baby still appears to have the wandering eye then it might be recommended to be discussed and presented to your doctor.

Depending upon the severity of the Strabismus, the doctor can recommend several courses of treatment. These can include glasses (spectacles), and quite commonly the use of a patch placed over the good eye so the weaker eye has to work to focus on the objects in sight. Over time this helps to strengthen the eye muscles and has been known to assist in cases of Strabismus. In addition, eye exercises which involve lots of hand-to-eye coordination can be administered however they are often only used when the child involved is able to understand and comprehend the exercise in question.

Finally, the worse case scenario is to have surgery in which there tends to be two techniques considered. The surgeon may take the eye muscle and attach it to a different part of the eyeball or they may deem it necessary to shorten the muscle simply by cutting a part of it away. In the majority if not all cases, surgery is only recommended once all other forms of treatment have been proven ineffective.

How to Reduce the Risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)?

For most parents, their infant children are the most precious things in the world. Sadly, dangers abound even in the home, of which one of the most subtle and yet the most fatal is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

As the name implies, SIDS is the sudden, unexplained death of any infant less than a year old. Research has shown that most of the cases of SIDS happen to infants between 2 months to 4 months of age. Thus, parents often increase vigilance against SIDS during this time although it may or may not slack off before and after it.

Because of said vigilance and simple measures, the number of SIDS cases has significantly declined in recent years. You, too, can adopt these easy but effective measures to lessen the risk of SIDS for your infant babies.

Sleeping on the Back
Letting your baby sleep on his back is the most recent and yet the most effective safeguard against SIDS. Even if your baby is a stomach and side sleeper, you must turn him unto his back as soon as he is asleep. There appears to be two reasons for this piece of advice. First, your baby's chest seems to be crushed, thus, leading to difficulty in breathing. Second, your baby may well raise his head and suffocate on the mattress. Keep in mind that infants have very minimal muscle and breathing control at this stage.

Sleeping on a Firm Surface
You must always ensure that the surface your baby is sleeping on is relatively firm. Thus, pillows, quilts, sheepskin rugs, memory foams and other soft surfaces are out of the question when it comes to providing your baby with a good night's sleep. If your baby is sleeping on a crib, you have to make sure that it meets all the safety requirements when it comes to the mattress. There are many ways to achieve this end: Make sure that the mattress fit the crib snugly. You can perform the finger test, which means that you should only be able to slide a finger between the crib rails and the mattress, one on each side. Ensure that the thickness of the mattress is sufficient for the depth of the crib. Your crib sheet must also snugly fit all the corners of the mattress with sufficient space to completely tuck underneath it. This way, your baby will not be entangled in the sheets if ever it comes off. Opt for firmer mattresses. Keep in mind that softer mattresses pose a suffocation hazard since babies have more difficulty lifting up their heads from said mattresses.

Keeping Soft Objects Away
The things surrounding the crib also matter. You have to keep any soft object, toys and pillows as well as loose bedding away from the crib. If you must keep the baby warm, then good clothing is more appropriate than plenty of blankets. However, remember that your baby should not overheat either so light sleep clothing is necessary during warm weather. If blankets must be used, make sure that it is not higher than his chest and it is tucked into the mattress bottom. All these precautionary measures must be taught to all of the baby's caregivers to ensure that your baby is protected from SIDS virtually all the time.

How to make your kids sleep in their own bed

The average parent can find it a real challenge to get their dearest toddler to sleep in their own room, for those lucky enough to have one.

Fortunately, I simply left them alone in the room, with the lights off, and they learnt to sleep by themselves. What a relief, as whenever I tried to stay in the room with them, they would kick up a fuss due to my presence. It was so simple I wish I did it earlier.

It helped that the elder one took a tiny bit of responsibility to enable her younger one to sleep, despite being the tender age of 3.

However, here are some tips to get a bedtime routine to help your toddler to relax and go to sleep by themselves.

Like so many toddlers, they always have a tonne of energy which seems to spike just before they go to bed. Get them to expend some energy first by doing the usual things like a walk in the park or just general playtime in the playroom.

1 hour before bedtime, its time to commence the wind down routine. Let them take their bath with a little playtime there too.

Let them take their night snacks or milk formula before bed. Hungry kids find it harder to sleep. Avoid high sugar snacks which give them even more energy. No more tv or other entertainment for them.

Set up their nice beds for them. It might be worthwhile to invest in a cute bedding designs. Some kids bedding for girls here. A night light might be necessary for those who are not used to sleeping by themselves after lights out. Let them have their favorite stuffed toy too.

The Benefits of Breastfeeding

There are many benefits of breastfeeding, which is why there has been a great increase in the number of breastfeeding moms in recent years.

Check out some these breastfeeding benefits to mom and baby:
The colostrum or "first milk" for the baby is very important for health and immune development. Colostrum is produced in the first few days after giving birth and is more condense and thicker than regular breast milk. The baby gets a lot of nutrients, vitamins and the benefit of your immune system in colostrum. Because of all the benefits of colostrum it is now available to adults in pill form in some health food stores. It is very beneficial for health.

Breastfeeding is better overall for the health of mommy and baby. The baby continues to get nutrients and vitamins that mom takes in everyday, and is able to work up immunities to allergies through mom's milk. As for mom, her body will go back to normal faster after childbirth by simply breastfeeding. It is a natural process that that helps mom and baby ease into natural health and well being.

In the mother, the uterus goes back to normal faster, shrinking back to its pre-pregnancy size. Because it goes so much faster there will be some cramping, usually felt during nursing sessions but it is very mild usually helpful in bringing your uterus back to its pre-pregnancy state.

Many moms lose baby weight faster when they breastfeed. After having baby and by breastfeeding, you will burn more calories everyday to keep up with the baby's diet. You are feeding someone else and maintaining your own body systems so this means the extra calories you burn will help you lose the weight you gained during pregnancy faster than if you were bottle feeding.

Babies often thrive when fed breastmilk. Formula has synthetic vitamins and minerals, made in labs, and they aren't as healthy as the ones that come from mom. Nothing can replace breast milk, it is naturally one of the most healthy things we can ingest.

Babies also use breastmilk to develop an immune system in early weeks. During the first few months and weeks of baby's life he or she has no immune system of their own. By breastfeeding they are still using mom's until they are able to build one of their own. This means less colds, less infections and overall a healthier beginning to life.

Brestfeeding has also been linked to a lower incidence of SIDS. Although scientists aren't quite sure why, studies show that babies who are breastfed have a lower chance of dying from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Some have theories as to why this is but the numbers show breastfeeding may very well offer protection against this mysterious phenomena.

A great bonding experience between mom and baby can be yet another large benefit. Because mom is the only one able to feed the baby for the first few weeks at least of life they have more time to bond. The baby's eyes can only focus so far from their face, about 8-10 inches, which just happens to be how far from mom's face they are when breastfeeding. The eye contact, skin to skin contact, and early interaction provide a wonderful bonding experience.

The saying "breast is best" is still alive after all this time. If you have to formula feed, don't feel guilty, but if you can breastfeed, even some, it will be completely worthwhile for you and your baby.

How To Get Rid Of Diaper Rash

A baby that has diaper rash is not a very happy baby to say the least. Nearly 50 percent of all diaper rashes go away by themselves within one day. Other diaper rashes can last up to ten days or more. When you baby has a problem it becomes your problem. What can be done to avoid or reduce the changes of this happening to your baby?

Most breastfed babies have less diaper rash than bottle-fed babies. Research has shown that this resistance continues long after a baby has been weaned.

My mom told me this years ago when I was having my children, "make sure you give that baby's bottom some air." Take the diaper off and lay your baby on its' chest, with his face turned to one side, on towels under laid with a waterproof sheet. Let the baby lay that way for about 30 to 60 minutes daily, make sure you are there to keep an eye on him or her.

Try blow-drying your baby's bottom. Make sure you keep the diaper area clean. Drying the baby's bottom with a towel can irritate sensitive skin. Dry the diaper area with a hair dryer set on "LOW", which avoids abrasion to wet skin. When the area is dry, zinc oxide ointments may be applied. Once you've washed and blown-dried you baby's bottom, apply some cornstarch; this is a technique that's' been use for many years with wonderful results. Use the cornstarch for 3 to 4 days always making sure you clean the baby's bottom thoroughly when changing his or her diaper.

Add vinegar to the rise if you're using cloth diapers. Add l ounce of vinegar to 1 gallon of water during the final rinse. Rinsing your diaper twice will also be very helpful. Adding vinegar to the final rinse will help bring the pH of cloth diapers into line with (that of) the baby's skin. Cloth diapers are most active with a high-pH after washing. Diaper rash enzymes are most active in a high-pH environment.

Super absorbent diapers seem to be a good idea to prevent diaper rash. Diapers containing absorbent gelling material have been shown to significantly reduce skin wetness and leave skin closer to its normal pH than either conventional disposable diapers or cloth diapers.

Baby Nursery Theme Ideas

So you are going to welcome a new baby into your home! Now comes a big decision. What theme to use for the nursery?

It's a good idea to design the room so that it can be easily modified as your child grows. Remember your baby is only in a bassinet or crib for a very short time.

Color themes are a good basic theme idea if you want to keep it simple. Use different shades of the color and decorate with a variety of baby themed fixtures and decorations. Blue is good for boys and can represent tranquility and pink can be a good traditional color for girls. Green and yellow are some other popular color choices for a nursery. The advantage of just choosing a color is that it will allow you greater flexibility in the objects you choose to decorate the room with and also as the child gets older, you can replace baby themed objects with more appropriate items as the children reach their teen years.

Animal themes are very popular for boys or girls and you can find wallpaper covered with cute kittens or puppies, or the walls can be painted and stickers of animals applied. Maybe you know someone who would paint a mural on one of the nursery walls - or maybe you could do one yourself. If you are not sure of your drawing skills there are plenty of patterns and tracing gadgets to assist you. Ducks and teddy bears are also popular theme ideas for both boys and girls.

Nursery rhymes are ideal as a theme for the nursery. There are mobiles, lamps, bedding and furniture readily available with nursery rhyme motifs. Buy a night light to match the chosen rhyme.

Underwater themes are an excellent for a baby's room - water is often equated with peace and calm and one of the things that you want to promote in your baby's sleeping quarters is a sense of peace. Soothing colors of pastel greens and blues help create the illusion. Mobiles hung from the ceiling and a lamp with a revolving lampshade will create the impression of gentle movement. Adding sea creatures, like octopuses, fish, and sea horses can further enhance the playful setting for your child.

Children's literature is another source for ideas. Any Beatrix Potter book will give you child- friendly characters that are readily available in all forms of bedding, wallpaper, lamps, ornaments and dishes. Dr. Seuss provides magical delights in creatures governed only by your imagination. There are rugs with 'Thing One' and 'Thing Two' depicted. There are ornaments showing the Cat in the Hat balancing a fabulous array of objects, and, of course, the Cat's famous hat could be hung on a peg on the wall.

If you still don't know what theme to go with, another option is to just go shopping and see what items are available in your local mall or children's store. Seeing these items may give you even more ideas on how to decorate your newborn baby's nursery. There are so many ideas and no right or wrong choices for this task. Make the room a place where you and your baby will be happy and peaceful.

How To Get Your Baby To Sleep

Bedtime! If you ask new parents about which is the time that is the toughest for them, most will definitely heave a sigh and say bedtime!

Getting your baby to sleep can certainly be a tough job, especially when they may think they're "missing something". With seemingly limitless energy, babies simply want to explore what's around them.

Your new baby can not tell the difference between night and day, nor can she understand logic or time. This can become a trying experience for you. What can be done? You can't shout or scold her, this will only escalate your situation. So the best thing you can do to get your baby to sleep is to make the environment itself conducive to sleep.

Here's how it works.
Babies prefer to be creatures of habit, they do best when things are scheduled and set for them. So you can "teach" your baby that daytime is for play, exploration, eating, and fun. Nighttime is for relaxing, and sleep. Setting a schedule and sticking to it, should condition your baby to nighttime sleeping. Being consistent is key.

A few ideas to get your baby to sleep:

10 Natural Ways To Care For Baby Skin

The skin on your baby is very fragile, delicate and thin. This means the skin is very sensitive and can react easily to weather temperatures and also irritants. Irritants can come from a variety of substances but mainly through the chemicals contained in the products you use on baby.

Avoiding these chemicals can be as easy as purchasing organic products but here are 10 other alternatives for you to try.

1. Unbleached disposable nappies.
The Choice website states: As far as dioxins are concerned, theyíre a family of organochlorins that includes one of the most toxic chemicals yet made. In the past, dioxin traces were found in chlorine-bleached white paper and pulp products, including disposable nappies. However, nowadays nappies are usually oxygen-bleached (using hydrogen peroxide), which forms no dioxin. However do we know what consequences hydrogen peroxide will bring? There are totally unbleached disposable nappies on the market that ensures your baby does not come into contact with any bleach.

2. Never use talc on baby.
Why? Contamination of wounds or body cavities with talc is liable to cause granulomas. Inhalation of talc can cause respiratory irritation. Prolonged exposure to talc may produce pneumocomosis. Talc is liable to be heavily contaminated with bacteria including Clostridium tetani, CL welchii and Bacillus anthracis, hence it must be sterilized. Mardindale 31 P1096, 1745, 1407 Organic talcs are usually made with corn flour, arrowroot and white clay and are wonderfully safe and very effective for keeping baby's skin dry.

3. Massage oils after bathing.
Avoid mineral based oils as they contribute to the drying of the skin when absorbed. Instead use natural and organic oils that continue to soothe and moisturize baby's skin. Try products that contain sweet almond oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil and chamomile, rose, lavender and mandarin essential oils. But remember to always do a test patch first and watch for any redness or irritation. Do not use if this occurs! You only need the tiniest amount of oil to massage into your baby's skin, less than a teaspoon.

4. Natural bottom wipes.
Homemade bottom wipes can be made easily. Cut a roll of strong paper towel (Viva are great) in half. Take out the cardboard inner roll. Mix two cups of water with Ω cup sweet almond oil and Ω cup of organic baby wash. Place one half of the roll into a container and pour over Ω of the solution. Store in container. Or for just a wiping solution try a cup of cool chamomile tea and a teaspoon of honey mixed well. Honey is a natural antiseptic so it is great for keeping baby's bottom germ free and will help treat existing nappy rash.

5. Soap free washing/bathing.
Newborns can be gently and easily wiped down with rose hydrosol. This is distilled water that contains healing and soothing aromatic rose extracts suitable for the most sensitive of skin types and is very economical as you only use a small amount. Older babies should be washed with organic baby washes as adult products tend to have harsher ingredients that can irritate baby's skin. Use baby washes sparingly.

6. Washing baby's clothes and Manchester.
Always wash baby's clothes and Manchester before using and wash in pure soap flakes or a gentle skin sensitive washing solution. Do not add water softeners or conditioners as these can cause skin irritation. Dissolve the flakes in a little warm water before adding to the washing cycle. Baby's clothes and sheets etc do not need to be disinfected, just dry in the sun.

7. Using organic baby lotion.
Organic baby lotions can be used as an alternative to massage oils and help keep baby's skin from drying out.. However baby's skin is sensitive so monitor the results carefully and discontinue use if any sign of redness or irritation occurs.

8. Sanitizing cloth nappies.
Washing cloth nappies at a temperature of 65 ∞C or hotter and then drying them in direct sunlight should eliminate any harmful germs as the ultraviolet light has a sterilizing effect and a natural bleaching ability. Natural Nappy Soak: Half fill a nappy bucket, then add a quarter of a cup of bicarbonate of soda and swish to dissolve, add 3 drops of lavender essential oil and 3 drops of tea tree essential oil. Soak nappies in this overnight then wash as per normal. Add half a cup of white vinegar to the final rinse for softer nappies. Always make sure the nappy bucket lid is firmly in place, and always out of reach of children.

9. Umbilical stump tips.
The umbilical stump must be kept clean and dry until it falls off naturally. Fold baby's nappy below the stump so it's exposed to the air and not to urine. Avoid bathing your baby in a bath tub until the stump falls off. Try using the hydrosol wash mentioned above. Studies have shown that leaving the stump to dry out naturally is the quickest method. Do not apply any drying agents as they can cause irritations.

10. Cradle cap care.
Cradle cap is the result of overactive glands in your baby's scalp and is not dangerous. It looks like a crusty patch of skin. This drying has been attributed to the hormones the mother passes to her child at birth and can continue for several months. The gentlest and safest way to cure cradle cap is to wipe the area with sweet almond oil, leave it on for about five-ten minutes then wash baby's scalp with an organic baby wash or shampoo. Do not leave the oil on the scalp as this will cause further dryness as the glands become ëconfused. Organic baby products that are totally safe to use on your baby are readily available online and through chemists. There really is no excuse to be using chemicals on your baby anymore!

How to Throw a Memorable Baby Shower

The anticipated arrival of a new baby is a very exciting time for families. Not only are the expectant parents thrilled, but friends and family cannot wait to welcome a new person to their world. Arranging a baby shower for your friend or family member who is expecting a baby is a wonderful idea. A baby shower is a special time for the expectant mother as she feels loved and will be the center of attention.

Once the decision has been made to throw a baby shower, invitations must be made or purchased and sent out to the people on the guest list. Next, food and entertainment has to be planned and baby shower favors must be purchased. A baby shower favor is nothing more than a gift that is given to each of the guests to thank them for their participation. Baby shower favors can be chosen according to the theme of the shower if desired. These gifts can consist of soaps, candy, lotions, or baked goods for example. The sky is the limit when it comes to baby shower favors.

Frankly speaking, many women are not all that thrilled to receive an invitation to a baby shower. Many baby showers are dull, uneventful and boring. If you want to throw a baby shower that will long be remembered, be sure to put your creativity to work. Plan games that the guests will enjoy partaking in and be sure to offer prizes to the winners.

Having creative and pretty baby shower decorations can add so much to the party. These decorations do not have to be expensive and they can most certainly be handmade. A few well-placed banners, streamers, and colorful balloons can create a fun atmosphere. If you want to truly impress the mother-to-be and the guests, consider diaper cakes.

A diaper cake is not only practical but it is a unique gift idea that can be the centerpiece on the gift table. Diaper cakes are a must-have for all new moms and the new mother will be able to use everything that is in the cake. The cake is not 'edible' but it is 'incredible' as it is created with layers of premium disposable diapers and filled with usable and practical items for the new baby. Diaper cakes can be purchased online, or if you or your friends are creative, you can build your own.

In conclusion, the ideal baby shower consists of well thought out baby favors, games and decorations. There is no reason to throw a dull shower. With just a bit of planning and preparation you can host a baby shower that will have the guests raving about it for months after.

How to Plan a Successful Baby Shower

Baby Showers were organised even in ancient times. However, with time, the nature and manner in which they are conducted has changed drastically. Here are a few tips for planning a successful baby shower.

1. It is important to find out about the customs and traditions that the would-be parents believe in. An ideal baby shower should be planned according to what is acceptable in their cultures.

Even in modern times like these, some people have deep seated cultural values and you must always respect them. This would make the shower more memorable and enjoyable.

2. If it is possible, get the would be-parents to make a list of all the things they would be needing for the baby. Once this is done, try and get gifts from this very list. Though it takes away the element of surprise, it is very practical and helpful for the parents, who otherwise have to buy a lot of things for their baby.

3. The timing of the baby shower should be perfect. It should not be either too late or too early. Calculate an ideal date according to the scheduled date of pregnancy. Also, if it is too late all the gifts might go in vain as the couple might have already bought a lot of things for the baby.

4. Pregnancy can be extremely tiring for the expecting mother, especially if it's her first pregnancy. Make sure that she doesn't exert herself at all during the shower and try and have the shower closer to her place.

5. Take extra effort to make the perfect guest list. After all, these are the people who are going to make the shower special. Talk to the couple and include the people they would like to have at the baby shower. It is their baby's shower, not yours.

6. The catering must be attended to very carefully. Serving food for a group of people can often get messy. Make sure that there is ample food and it is served efficiently. Be prepared for any emergencies in this department.

7. Last but not the least, have a few sources of entertainment at the party. You don't want the guests to get bored. Board games, puzzles or even karaoke can work wonders on baby showers. You could even request the guest to write poems for the baby or the couple beforehand.
Here's hoping that you have an amazing baby shower!

Baby shower games

Babies are so much fun. But baby shower games are much more fun since moms-to-be, godparents, grandparents, and other invitees in the baby shower can get to play childish games again. Some of the baby shower games that can be played include Sing It, Baby!, Measuring up Mommy, Here's Looking at You, Kid!, Don't Say Baby, Baby Truth or Dare, The Seventh Gift, and Dig out the Pins.

These baby games are the common baby shower games usually played. They are a great way that would let the guests mingle and get to know each other, if they aren't acquainted yet. This is also another great way to give honor to the mom-to-be for having that precious baby on the way.

How do we play these baby shower games? Here is the run-down on how to play the baby shower games and create good memories of a great baby shower.

In Sing It, Baby!, the guests participants form a circle. They can sit or stand. Then, each guest must sing a line or two from a song that has the word "baby" in it. When the first game player has finished, the next person seated on her right has ten seconds to sing another "baby" song. "Baby" songs cannot be repeated, thus, participants who repeat a song or cannot think of a "baby" song gets booted out of the game. Last person singing in this baby game shower wins the prize!

How big has mommy become? Measuring Up Mommy is the baby shower game to play as this gives the guests the freedom to measure mommy's size. Have a couple of toilet paper rolls ready and ask each participant to estimate the size of mommy's girth by cutting the toilet paper to their guess size. Then each one wraps around the new mommy's stomach the toilet paper they cut. The nearest length approximating to the mommy's stomach wins the prize!

Remember how you looked when you were a baby? This game takes you down memory lane as you need to dig up those baby pictures of yours. Because you need them to play the baby shower game

Here's Lookin' At You, Kid! Before the party itself, request all the guests coming to bring the cutest baby picture of themselves. Upon their arrival, secure each baby picture and assign a number per picture. During the game, lay all baby pictures and give each participant paper and pen and ask them to identify as many baby pictures as they can. The guest with the most number of correct guesses is the big winner.

This baby shower game makes you NOT say what you are suppose to be attending to! The game Don't Say Baby is precisely that! Don't say "baby" during the entire length of the baby game shower for the diaper pin that was given to you upon your arrival will be taken away from you. The person with the most number of diaper pins collected at the end of the shower party wins a prize.

This baby shower game is for those who love baby trivia and the like. Play Baby Truth or Dare by writing down some baby trivia, some correct and others purposely written incorrectly. During the baby shower game, ask randomly if the baby facts are either true or false. Those who guess correctly gets a prize while those who don't will be dared to perform in front of everyone else.

We all know that the single lady who catches the bride's wedding bouquet is said to become the next bride. In The Seventh Gift, it is not so much a baby shower game but more of a fable that says that the giver of the seventh gift unwrapped will be the next expecting mother. However, avoid "planting" the seventh gift.

Last but not the least, Dig Out the Pins is the baby shower game that tests the agility of the guests as they fish out the most number of diaper pins from a large bowl filled with uncooked rice and diaper pins in under two minutes. The participant that has the most number of pins brings home the prize.

Common reasons why babies cry

Crying is a normal event in the lives of all babies. When a baby comes out of the woomb the first thing to do is crying.By the first cry he will take some air in to the lungs for the first time in their life. After delivery if the baby doesnot cry then it should be initiated by slightly pinching or gently strocking the feet.
